- On-Site Clean-Up Operations: On-site workers, and supervisors and managers directly responsible for on-site workers
- Treatment, Storage and Disposal (TSD) Facilities: Employees exposed to health hazards or hazardous substances
- Emergency Response Operations: Hazardous materials technicians, hazardous materials specialists, and on-scene incident commanders
This three-day course is intended to supplement an employer’s internal HAZWOPER training program, and provide 24-hours of initial training for workers exposed to hazardous materials and health hazards associated with releases and spills. Topics covered include:
- Implementation of emergency response plans and incident command systems
- Basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
- Classification and identification of unknown materials
- Hazard and risk assessment techniques,
- Field survey instrumentation and equipment
- Selection and use of specialized personal protective equipment
- Response strategies and tactics
- Decontamination of personnel and equipment
This course does not include site-specific or hands-on training required for employers.
NOTE: The South Dakota Safety Council does not offer the HAZWOPER “40-hour” Initial Training.

No refunds will be made after three business days prior to the course. This policy will be enforced, so please plan if you need to cancel your attendance. No refunds will be made on uncancelled registrations or no-shows. Substitutions are accepted at any time. We reserve the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment, or other circumstances which would make the event nonviable. If we cancel an event, registrants will be given a full refund.
