Earthmoving Equipment: Fundamentals for the Trainer
Do you have employees operating earthmoving equipment, including front-end loaders, graders, excavators and/or skid-steers? In both general industry and construction, OSHA requires that each operator be properly trained and evaluated prior to operating any equipment, and anyone working around this equipment must have training prior to exposure. Training must be conducted by a person who has “the knowledge, training and experience to train operators and evaluate their competence”. Are your trainers competent to facilitate proper training? This course is intended for trainers, as well as superintendents, managers, supervisors, foremen, and safety personnel, to understand design and operating principles, requirements and consensus standards, and the responsibilities of designated trainers. Topics include:
- Types of mobile earthmoving equipment
- Design, loading and capacity
- Safe operation
- Rollover protection
- Attachments
- Inspections and maintenance
- Environmental factors
- Site-Preparation and excavation considerations
- Demolition considerations
- Operator training and evaluation
- Minnesota-specific requirements
