Fall Protection: Fundamentals for Construction-Virtual
Whenever any worker in Construction is exposed to fall-hazards of at least six-feet, OSHA requires that employers ensure workers are protected by conventional fall protection. Although a variety of fall protection systems are available, each situation is unique, and the systems available and permitted may be limited. More importantly, employers must ensure that employees are protected by properly selecting, designing and implementing a proper fall-protection system. This course is intended for competent persons, as well as superintendents, supervisors, foremen, and safety personnel, to understand the various fall protection systems, OSHA’s requirements under 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M and Subpart X, and the responsibilities of designated competent person(s). Topics include:
- Overview of fall hazards
- Requirements for differing fall-hazard conditions
- Principles and design of guardrail systems, personal fall-arrest systems, positioning device systems, safety-net systems, warning-line systems, controlled access zones and covers
- Fall protection in steel-erection
- Stairways and ships-ladders
- Fixed and portable ladders
NOTE: This course does not include “hands on” training required for employers.
